Day 6 of 28: Really Seeing. Really Hearing.

Are we there yet? No? You say it’s only Day 6 of 28 – oh boy, I may be in trouble.

I haven’t run out of topics But this last week of classes is hurting me – I will press through though and my God has something phenomenal on the other side. So Excited! Can’t wait!

Anyhoo onto more important matter such as today’s topic – Really Seeing. Really Hearing. I’m going to try and keep it brief since I do have a research paper to tend to :rolls eyes:

As a society we have become so dependent on what we see around us. It’s time that you (and me)

It’s time that we all see the bigger picture. This earth is not our final home. There is an eternity that is beyond the finite reach of our minds.

Isaiah 6:9 talks about a people who hear but don’t understand and who see but don’t perceive. A lot of people are lacking especially in the areas of power and faith because they only trust and put their faith in what is seen.

2 Corinthians 4:18 says it like this “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen are temporal (temporary and subject to change) and what is unseen is eternal.” We’re not Really Seeing until we fix our eyes on the unseen arena, then the way we perceive our everyday life will change drastically. How can I fix my eyes on the unseen? I’m so glad you asked – why it’s by simply focusing on Jesus in everything you do. When you truly live a WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) life your eyes are fixed on the eternal realm.

And what about this hearing piece? Mark 4:23 “If anyone has ears to hear, let that person hear.” Well I mean of course – what else can you do with ears? You certainly can’t speak with them. Okay wise guy Jesus broke it down just for you in the next verse – “Consider carefully what you hear…” (Mark 4:24). For those of us who are not deaf we are constantly hearing – whether sounds or the absence of sounds (Silence). The ability to hear is automatic and our attitude behind it can be quite dismissive when we want it to be. Really Hearing or Listening is usually a more conscious effort. I say usually because if you hear something enough (or repeatedly) it can become ingrained in you. That’s why Jesus tells us to “Consider carefully” everything that we hear.

Really hearing is important because God is trying to communicate with us. People will always have their opinions and even those with the best intentions can be wrong. God, however can never be wrong. Psalm 25:14 says “The Lord tells His secrets to those who respect Him…” If you are a child of God then God literally wants to TELL you His secrets but how can He tell you if you’re not Really Hearing? God created Adam with the ability to walk and talk with Him and He desires the same for us. Yes sin came into the world and deafened us to the things of God but once we have our relationship with God restored by way of Jesus Christ we once again have that capacity to hear from God the way that Adam did.

It is imperative that we hear from God we need His guidance and direction in all areas of our lives and if we’re not Really Hearing then as believers we’re in trouble.

Pray that God opens your ears to really hear from Him. Learn to tune out those things that will not guide you in the right way and that doesn’t mean placing yourself in compromising situations with compromising words or songs just to practice tuning them out.  When God does open your ears to His voice be ready not only for secrets direct from the mind of God but also for instructions. Our job is to obey His voice so don’t be rebellious or turn away instead follow Isaiah’s example  “The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away” (Isaiah 50:5).

So Let us Fix Our Eyes on the Unseen and Open our Ears to the Voice of God because when we do then we’re Really Seeing and Really Hearing.
