Words are powerful.
Words are like atoms they are the building blocks of the universe. Don’t believe me? Recall that in Genesis Chapter 1 all God did was SAY “Let there be light” and there was light. The world was framed by words.
I had to come to grips with the fact that my words (along with my faith or lack thereof) are constantly creating, forming and shaping something out of nothing. Through this creation and formation it is also quite possible that with my words I am destroying or abolishing what is until it is no longer.
Some words are immortal they will never be forgotten. Whether it’s school children memorizing Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address or parts of the Martin Luther King Jr. “I have a dream” speech or even someone remembering hurtful words long after someone has left the scene. Words echo and reverberate in the atmosphere of the minds that hear them. Words are living organisms. They are made alive with meaning.
There is no better example of immortal and living words than the Bible. Not only has it survived all these thousands of years but it is still applicable to us today. Jesus is actually referred to as the Living Word. When He was on earth and even in heaven Jesus was and is the embodiment of God’s Word.
We can’t escape words. We use words for everything. We use words to label everything. We use words to communicate with others. We even use words to communicate with ourselves because we think in words.
Words are powerful. Even some people who don’t know God know that. That’s why you have books like The Secret that talk about things like the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction, the basis for the book The Secret, states that you attract into your life whatever you think and speak about. This concept is nothing new and the truth of the matter is it comes from the Bible. Oh yes it does!
Proverbs 18:21 says that “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue: those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” The power of the tongue is Words! Whether we speak life or death we will reap the consequences good or bad.
Mark 11:23 NLT says “I tell you the truth, you can SAY to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea’, and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.” Using only your words and your faith in God you can say that the impossible is possible and the Bible says that it will happen. Sometimes we speak our worst fears into existence because we think about them and talk about them all the time and that’s one of the consequences that Proverbs 18:21 promises us.
This topic is important to me because yesterday I talked about God promising us peace and power and one of the ways that power is displayed is in the way we talk and think it is showcased through our words.
That is why meditating on God’s Word is so powerful because the Bible tells us all the right things we need to say in order to see God’s hand in our everyday lives. Watch your words. Be mindful of every word that comes to your mind and out of your mouth. Then watch your words. Look at the way your words form your world.
Remember according to Romans 4:17 this word power gives us the ability to speak those things that be no (that don’t exist) as though they were already in existence.
Keep saying what you heard (from God whether through His Word or through spending time with Him) until you see what you say –
